The ship mound (Skipshaugen)
In 1852, the world's first archaeological examination of a Viking ship was carried out in Borre. The remnants of the ship were in a poor state due to bad preservation conditions in the earth, but it was nevertheless possible to get an inkling of the shape and length of the ship, which is estimated to be 17-20 meters.

The journey to the Underworld.
The Vikings were always well prepared for their journeys, both in real life and after death. They equipped their aristocratic graves with various objects, such as kitchen supplies, food, weapons and means of transportation that one might need on the journey to the Underworld. In the Ship Mound and in mound 2 forged iron kettles and vessels of soapstone, which probably once was part of a complete kitchen kit, have been found.
